Basically, I've heard that you can firmware flash your 360 without needing to open it up: however, the only way of determining what version your DVD drive is is to open it up. <_> Catch 22? I know this might be a noobish question but I just got into this whole firmware hacking thing and I don't know what else to do but ask. As far as I can tell, when I open the tray it looks like a BenQ or a LiteOn drive (straight edges on the sides and a smooth parabola at the end).
I have no idea which it is: BenQ or LiteOn, because I don't want to open it up to see the wires. I know it'll void my warrenty to flash it anyway, but I don't want to break something by opening it up.
Is there any detailed guide on how to safely open your 360, remove the DVD drive, and connect it to your computer? I'm not sure how to do any of that, and I don't want to break anything.
go to youtube and type in "opening xbox 360". You can even use a hairdryer to remove the warranty sticker if you want to put it basck later for warranty purposes.

Google it mate. There's plenty of case opening guides out there. I would recommend getting a case opening tool off eBay which makes things easier, plus some of them also come with the torx screwdriver that you're going to need.
