I'm new to this stuff. My 360 stopped reading disc. It spins for a sec and then says open tray like nothing is there. I dont get a error or anything. Well i went on ebay and bought the same dvd drive I had in the xbox thinking I could do the board swap i saw on youtube only to see I'd have to solder some wires. Before I go buy a solder gun will simply replacing the board work? I'm on a mac so i don't think i can flash a 360 on a mac at least i haven't seen anything showing me how to.

Board swap would work if it is actually a problem with the board. If it is a problem with the laser, it won't help.

I don't know about flashing a 360 with a Mac, but I imagine you could use some USB flash drive bootup method. In any case, you need to flash that new drive with your original key. Don't bother with a board swap.
