Anyway, everything was fine, I erased successfully, and it was listed as Serial Flash with status 0x72. about 2 minutes later it crashed.
I followed the advice in the tutorial, it took a while, as it crashed 4 more times in the process. I reloaded the firmware, into'd the device, which seemed okay.
Then when I tried to write the firmware I get this error: Unknown flash type Write Aborted !
I also notice that I can no longer eject the drive with the button on the CK3.

By booting into dos you mean actual dos and not just a dos window?
I have not connected the drive back to my 360 yet, I assume it won't work period as its currently erased if not bricked.
You will definitely want to boot to DOS then. I have a tutorial on how to make a bootable USB drive in my signature. From there, all you need to add in is DosFlash v1.7 (DosFlash16 folder = dosflash.exe and dosflash.typ). You will also need to put your custom firmwarebin on there. Boot to the USB drive and type:
dosflash.exe
Your Lite-ON will be identified by it's flash chip: MXIC or Winbond/NEX.
Select the corresponding SATA port to the Lite-ON.
Type W for write and then type the name of the custom firmware bin.
It should start to write the firmware and finish.
