Did the tech swap my Rom drive?

Hi.Just got my sons xbox 360 firmware flashed to 1.6.Console is only 9 months old and not had a lot of use.From the day we picked it up from the workshop(works from home,not a shop)we have had nothing but trouble loading games(xbox says disc unreadable and after inserting game 2 or 3 times it finally reads game.Another problem is a couple of games freezing mid game.None of this prior to flashing.
Also I have a suspicion he may have swapped our rom drive with an inferior one.
Would there be any benifit to him by doing this?
The reason I ask this is he allowed us to wait and watch as he did the soldering thing but then he asked us to wait outside so he could flash the drive.Thought that a bit strange at the time but after getting home and trying to play a game and problems started from that moment we started thinking he swapped our Liteon drive with dodgy one.
I noticed a serial number on the rom drive.Is there any way to check this against our xbox.
Or am I jumping to conclusions and this is one hell of a coincidence.
