difference in key extracting tools?

ok i have been trying to flash my liteon for a couple days now..but i cant seem to get my key extractor to work right..i have made the one composed of a molex cable, npn transistor, a 1k ohm resistor, a 10k ohm resistor, a female db9, and a wire with a test lead needle. but i just read a post on making one and its alot more than that..but it also said that there wasnt a way to flash the liteons so it was obviously old but i was wondering. is my key extractor going to work or do i have to make the really complicated one..i havent had any luck yet but i rebuild and try to tweak it every day. can someone please help..i keep getting bad serial data.
