Disasterous attempt to create custom 250gb hard drive

Hi everyone.

Well I picked up my brand new WD5000BEVT today ( I decided to go with 500GB so I could easily upgrade if Micro$oft decide to release a larger one in the future).



Everything was going smoothly, I had just used Hddhackr 1.22 to flash my drive with the 250GB hddss.bin.

While it was attached to my pc i used xplorer360 to check that it could see the partitions, which it could.

I put the new drive in the xbox hard drive enclosure and plugged it in so that I could format it.

Disaster. The xbox would not detect the drive at all. The xbox would automatically reboot if I plugged in or unplugged the hard drive but all it could see was my memory units.

I thought maybe I had a bad flash so I opened the hard drive enclosure again, realizing I could just pull out the sata to xbox cable and use that to test-connect without completely reassembling the hard drive. Before I tried re-flashing I figured I would reconnect my 20GB.

Bingo. That didn't work either. So it looks like I must have damaged the cable when I disassembled my 20GB unit. I tried connecting and reconnecting both hard drives plenty of times all with the same result. So my questions are:

1. Am I right? Could the problem be caused by anything else? Has anyone else encountered this?

2. What would be the easiest way to replace the cable? Plenty of sellers on ebay have replacement shells which include the cable but I don't really need the shell. Anyone know where I can get the cable on it's own?

i would just get a broken HD from ebay. it will come with the entire shell and the cable, but it should only cost you around 10 bucks that way. not do bad IMO.
