DISC IS UNREADABLE

Okay, so I just installed a new DVD drive and I STILL get freezes and unreadable disc errors. It freezes on a BRAND NEW Gears of War 2 and number of other games in almost perfect condition at random situations, also without the hard drive connected. The games are not defects as they work absolutely fine on a friends Xbox.

I really have no idea what's going on anymore. The only, last thing I can think of right now is a defective SATA cable and I would like to confirm with somebody if it can cause freezes or any other error.

I would also like to clarify that my Xbox 360 is nowhere near getting the RROD and is out of warranty. Any help at all is greatly appreciated as I am EXTREMELY frustrated at the moment.

why brand is the new drive that you put in the console? what speed is it set to read the games at? what brand of discs are you burning your games at? or are these all original store bought games that they freeze on?

any luck on getting this figured out cuz I am having the same problem. Was getting unreadable disc errors, bought a new dvd drive and am still getting the errors. It will play the game bout 1/10 times. changed the sata cable as well, that did not help. please email me if you have any solutions.

I posted a similar thread a few days ago which really did not generate many responses/solutions.

I was having unreadable disc issues while playing GTA4 which was installed on my HDD. After trying to play the original (scratch-free) game disc I was still encountering the same problem. So here's what I did.

1. Clear the HDD cache.
Steps: System Settings > Memory > Device Options > Clear System Cache.

After this, the unreadable problems disappeared. Looks like the Aug 11th update may have caused this based on my experience.

Clearing the system cache does not delete your game saves. 'Formatting' your hard drive does.

Clearing the system cache only removes the game updates. Some of these updates may have been corrupted by the Aug 11th update on some systems.

i'll try that. I think both my dvd drives are messed up though. the new one I ordered didn't work in a friend of mine's 360 either. and the casing of it is kinda bent like it had been dropped or something.
