Ok so my 360 is out of warranty and I dont want to buy another one. So I was wondering if there is any way i can fix this. The tray does not go in and out on its on.. however it will at some points, and if i push it up slightly... I have been wiping the tray with a damp cloth seems to be getting a little more range of motion... however the big problem is.. when i open the tray manually when power is off and put a disc in then start the xbox... it doesnt notice the disc just says open tray. Is this able to be fixed.. or will i have to get a whole new drive?

You're going to have to open your box. After you do that, take the top cover of the drive off and run with it off and see if the problem persist. Also sometimes when someone comes to me with this problem, the magnet of the motor came off and is stuck to the top cover and it then causes alignment issues. Look at the motor center (what picks the disc up when tray is inside drive) and make sure the magnet is still there. The blinking light means that the drive is busy or sometimes just not responding. its moving a little better now, but i still have to start it a little. I see the magnet (black strip) in the motor, however when the drive goes from open to close, it seems to try and line up with the motor, but the motor only comes up a little bit, acts like it cant get all the way up to pick up the disc. The laser hasnt moved at all also.

If i cant fix this I can just buy a samsung xbox drive off ebay and switch the circuit boards right?

Obviously if the motor can not go all the way up, it is being obstructed. If you buy a new drive just make sure they are exactly the same if you plan on just swapping the PCB. The alignment magnet should look like a ring and sits right on top of the motor. I've seen these come out of the motor assembly and staying stuck to the upper plate. Make sure this is not the case and if it is, you'll just have to glue it back on to the motor assembly. Good luck!
