I have had my console RROD, it was fixed for free. I have had 3 game disks scratched beyond repair before I finally made the right size protection pads to prevent it. Then my 360 started overheating and automatically shutting down (two red lights) before I added a fan to help cool it. Now I have a new problem. My 360 will no longer play DVD's or games, only music CD's. Before this I was having problems with the disk drive not opening when you told it too, and it would often confuse game disks with DVD's or simply say "Open Tray" when you put a game in, as nothing was in there. As of yesterday, it has completely stopped reading games/movies. I have already lubricated all moving parts in the drive as well as cleaned the laser lens, but to no avail. Any suggestions? Do I need to order a new laser eye (10.00- 15.00 eBay) or a whole new drive (15.00- 35.00)? Or is the whole console ****ed? I have a 2006 console with the extra added heat sink when it was fixed by MS, and a Hitachi drive. And yes, the warranty is definatly void, LOL! Help would be appreciated. Thank you.

N64 beats em' all!

You can adjust the laser resistance. You'll need an ohm meter. I can help if you have one. Google 360 pot adjustment.

Here's the best tutorial on the potentiometer adjustment for DVD read errors:

that will work but only for a limited time as it will just burn the laser out the rest of the way if it does work. for a long term fix either replace the laser or the entire drive.

If you send me questions on Live about modding or anything related i will block you. Dont be an idiot.

Actually, if you adjust the laser as it states in the guide. You could be good for some time. Just stay above 2.8 ohms. I've done three of them, and went from open tray or dirty disk, to reading every time. Repaired over 6 months ago -- seems to work for me... though others may have less luck, I don't know. It's free!! :)
