Hello all. I've been using my two 360 units for video playback for years--probably more than I use them for gaming, believe it or not. My older unit has recently come across a major problem, though. It won't play any file I throw at it. It's not an issue with my thumbdrives, because I've tried brand new ones, old ones, DVD-Rs, and no dice. It keeps doing the same thing.
What it does is takes an oddly long time to load the file, and when it does load, there is no video. I can hear audio, but there's no video, and my remote stops functioning.
Has anyone pinpointed the cause of this sort of issue? Is it common? Various searches have led me to believe it's a failure of the graphics chip. However, games work fine, still, so I don't know what to believe. This unit is well past warranty and has survived two RROD's. And by survived, I mean it's been fixed by Microsoft. I wouldn't be surprised if it's got big issues that are un-fixable for the 'common man,' but I figured it wouldn't hurt to ask.
Part of me is looking forward to calling up Microsoft and yelling at them for making me pay for repairs, but part of me is not looking forward to it, because I doubt it'll do any good. I'm also not financially able to take my ball, go home, buy a PS3, and 'never buy another Microsoft product again.' You all know how it is.
Thoughts, suggestions, and retorts are appreciated.
Google has directed me to this forum on frequent occasions with a lot of my technical troubleshooting needs, so thank you all for the past help you've given me just by having the threads public. And thanks to anyone to helps in the future. :)
