I have a new Jasper and I just want to know if installing the game to the HDD reduces chances of overheating and the overall longevity of the console/Laser. If it does by a noticeable marging, I don't mind spending on a HDD. I'm THAT scarred by my previous RROD experiences. =(

Thanks.

Doesn't do any harm. I install all my games to HDD, I find it speeds up loading on most games and keeps the console reasonably quiet. As xdanielx said it does stop the disc from constantly spinning so that's going to cause some reduction in temperature. If you are that scared of overheating I would suggest getting a talismoon internal fan to replace the stock one. I haven't carried out any extensive benchmarking or anything but it does seem to keep my xbox cooler than when the stock fan was in there.

NO. I've ran FSD and the temps were exactly the same from disc spinning and without. I've personally never even seen a Jasper RROD ever. It's not very common.

Well, I need to shell out another 60 bucks for a HDD. I m just wondering if it's worth it. =(

I dont download DLC. Neither do I go on Live. Neither do I mind the extra load time. So. I dont know if buying a HDD for the sole purpose of reducing overheating is worth it if temperature differences are negligible.
