Well from what I have been seeing I think it's best if you don't update because alot of people and I do mean alot of people are getting their 360's bricked because of the update. I myself have not updated yet due to this update causing many problems. I am waiting until a proper release comes out before I update. I am waiting to update since my 360 is no longer under warranty.

Something in the update is causing alot of people to get the dreaded RROD. It seems to affect almost all 360's new and old, Falcon and Jasper chips. Beware is all i'm saying.

>> We received this news from Felix Domke and Michael Steil at the Free60 Project:
[QUOTE]
On Tuesday, Microsoft has released an Xbox 360 software update that overwrites the first stage bootloader of the system. Although there have been numerous software updates for Microsoft's gaming console in the past, this is the first one to overwrite the vital boot block. Any failure while updating this will break the Xbox 360 beyond repair. Statistics from other systems have shown that about one in a thousand bootloader updates goes wrong, and unless Microsoft has a novel solution to this problem, this puts tens of thousands of Xboxes at risk.

I have heard nothing about mass RROD because of the update though

M$ did say that it was because of the update but I am not sure if you can send it in to them to fix or not. You have a 1 in 1,000 chance of getting your drive bricked.

Yeah i'm waiting on a patch before I update. I am on my second 360 and I'm not anxious to get another RROD.

i know whats going on, the reason i said what do you mena, is because i think it is a lot less of a risk than 1 - 1,000 i have only seen one person on here have it happen to them.

Well considering how many xbox's there are and the amount of users on the AD forums I would say seeing only 1 on here is about right.

You have all the right to be paranoid for updating. But the wait for m$ to throw a "patched" update fixing this problem is most likely a whileeeeeeee and a half. I updated just fine. Im a lucky one also. ;)

Neither do I TBH. I'm sure they are just trying to cover all of their bases.

I updated too and all went good. The new features are pretty useless, but still...

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Hmn... just because you don't see many people on scene forums with this problem doesn't mean there isn't a 1/1000 chance of it happening. Those numbers are a worldwide average and when your dealing with stats you have to look at all the whole sample of people not just people from a few sites. I'm pretty sure if you added up all the people in the world who have this problem the average would be around 1/1000. it also does not seem far off to me since Microsoft claims to have sold over 28 million systems, if you divide that by a thousand youd get 28000 systems broken because if this update, which seems like a reasonable number.

just my opinion
