Why should I update my drive is it just to play newer games or will it help with disk errors too.

To play new games. The newest firmware 1.61, which is for BenQ and I think Sammy drives will play wave 4 games like COD Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 Dead 2, Assassin's Creed 2. Ixtreme Lite Touch will be out sometime in the near future for all drives, supposed to be more like original firmware.
