I got my xbox 360 flashed 2 years ago and it hasn't had problems reading burned games. In the past 6-7 months, however, I've encountered more and more cases where the xbox would just "struggle" with reading the disc and it would say "Open Tray" afterwards.
I just wasted $10 on 5 memorex dvd+r DLs for halo reach...NONE worked. I went and bought 20 Verbatim discs, still doesn't read them.
I use clone cd, I select the .dvd file, burn at 2.4x. Still doesn't work...what could the problem be/????
What's your firmware version?
Do newer releases work? What's the newest game you got that works? (new, as in, released in the last 6 months or so).
Try ImgBurn to burn the .dvd file.
it could be that after a while of reading backups your laser is getting weak. look up pot calibration on google. wat it does is allow you to turn up or down the power of your laser. i had problems with a hitachi i did not reading ANY backups, but playing retail fine. i adjusted the pot settings, and that took care of it for me. if retail games load fine but not backups, chances are that's wat ur problem is. hope that helps

Do you mean the firmware version of my xbox? The newest game that works is Alan Wake, but sometimes it works instantly, sometimes I have to re-insert it 5-10 times. I tried IMG burn and it doesn't seem to work.....so most likely laser problem??
Would just like you to know, that I looked up the guide, went to Canadian Tire, bought a multimeter, calibrated the laser (from 3.8k ohms to 3.2k)...Works FLAWLESSLY, solved everything.

Thanks again!
I would still advise on getting a new laser. This will get you by for a while
