I'm going to flash a stock benq...Do i need a DVD connectivity kit to do this?? What kind do I need? Can I do it without one?? What is the benifit of having one?

You don't have to purchase a connectivity kit. They are mainly for convenience do you don't have to lug around your 360 and power supply. The connectivity kit also provides features for dumping the DVDkey of a 74850C Lite-ON (with the use of the probe/spear of course). The connectivity kit will use your 4 pin molex for power from your PC and also comes with an ON/OFF switch which is nice.

You should double check to make sure you do have a BenQ. Lite-ONs look the same.

if it is just a benq, then you would not NEED a connectivity kit, although people do still use them to power their drives

Yes and No. You can make a homemade probe and use that along with your XBOX 360 as a power source. Persoanlly, I just spent the money and bought the kit and probe.

Lite-ON drive firmware revision:

74850C = Probe
83850C = No Probe

is it going to erase everything on the 360 when i flash it...like saved games....downloaded stuff...could it erase anythin on my pc or hurt my pc to flash the xbox

No. All that is saved on your hard drive. You are modifying the DVD drive's firmware.

If you are going to flash multiple drives, or do your many times, it's worth the connectivity kit. If not, then use your 360
