dvd DDE's and just other issues..

just a quick question.
if my buddie is experiencing the dirty disk error and just other dvd related issues,could i reflash his dvd w/a custom firmware(iXtrme)
to get rid of the errors or maybe the dvd wont even play.would reinstalling new firmware work?or is it crapping out?

It could possibly be the burner or media. The laser may be dying.

But no, you can't flash custom firmware and get rid of problems like that.
