Hello, Long story short I accidentally plugged the DVD drive power connector in backwards and now my DVD won't respond at all. So I am about to connect it up and go around with a multimeter to see if I can track down the problem and then possibly fix it.

Other thing I was wonder is if it is possible to take the firmware chip off the current drive and then solder it to a new Hitachi drive. Would that work? Not sure if that would be worth the time. I might just try and sell it and maybe someone else would care to fix it up.

Rather annoying that this happened since the only reason I was in there was to fix a RROD which I did manage to fix by reinstalling the CPU/GPU heatsinks. Now I have this problem with the DVD drive :(

EDIT: So I probed around with a multimeter and the drive does how power on all of the spots I tested. Not sure where the problem could be. When I push the eject button the middle green light only blinks once. In the xbox menu it shows "open tray" when I click on it the xbox immediately says "close tray" when I click on it again it says "reading" for about a minute then goes back to saying "open tray". Any ideas? Ive tested a bunch of spots and what I think are capacitors. There are two of them. If one is blown and I use the multimeter on the + and - will it still show a reading?

the drive will still complete a circuit which is what you are basically testing it for. The motor and all internal workings are fried if the power plug was put in upside down. Best bet is to pay the 100 bucks to send it to microsoft and get it replaced or just go buy a new 360. You can put a dvd drive in it and it will be useful for listening to cd's and watching dvd's but thats about it.

I didn't realize it was a hitachi until I just reread it. The chip can be taken off and read on a programmer, correct?

It is one of the 7xxx series that from what I know can be Jtaged. I thought of doing the Jtag hack but not sure if I want to. Someone wants to buy it off me for $80 which is what I paid for it so I am perfectly happy with that and I could use the money since I went out and bought another 360 (one that actually works this time).

Not really worth sending to MS since I only paid $80 for the thing. I already bought another 360. This one I bought used but it is new back from warranty. I paid $120 CAN for it. Currently waiting for my probe to come in the mail so I can flash the Lite-On drive it has.

I'm just going to sell it for $80 to the guy I have interested in it. If I had more time and money on hand I would totally keep it and Jtag it up.

Oh good God, no, don't sell that for $80 if it has the old 7xxxx dash. If you can jtag it you can get the dvd key very easily.

It's a Sammy box worked fine for the all of a sudden the middle green light on the right won't stop blinking. So I tried dumping it and no luck drive isn't detected by JF I know hot to flash all drive models so I know I'm not doing something wrong. So I opened the drive up hooked it to the pc and sure enough nothing moves or makes a noise when powered on. So I took off the MB from the drive and plugged into another Sammy and same thing nothing happens any ideas how to get the key for this MOBO ? Other than Jtag cuz the dash is up to date

I use a Willem. You'll want an eeprom programmer and make sure it has the right socket for the samsung tsop. If it doesn't have it then you'll have to grab an adapter.

I can't think of any readily available guides as this isn't something the average 360 flasher would attempt. Maybe try over on xboxhacker? Or maybe search on Youtube?
