DVD drive problem - see video footage

I have an xbox with a faulty Hitachi DVD drive. It would not read or even attempt to read any discs so i bought a new laser and fitted it. It now tries to read game discs but cant quite manage it. It plays DVD films no problem at all however will not play CDs.

I tested POT on DVD and it was 4.4 so i reduced to 3.8 then 3.4 then 3.2 then 2.95 and still it does the same!

It kind of tries to read the disc but keeps jumping - see the video on youtube link below when i try to play a game, a DVD and a CD.

Any help much appreciated, cheers!

Well judging by the dash the best thing you could do is JTAG it.

Jtag it and get a BenQ drive. Would never recommend replacing the laser on Hitachis as they are pants

Thanks but I'm not interested in jtag- I'll be doing update once fixed via xbl. Unless a jtagable xbox is worth more? I'll be selling it on you see

I do have a benq here to go in it but was hoping to get this hitachi working ideally - anyone know of a fix....?

Jtaggable consoles are worth a hell of alot more, you'd be a fool to update it.

All boards can be jtaged. It all depends on the dash.

Great I got a Jasper with the old Blade dashboard so I'm gonna guess that it can be Jtaged
