dvd file question pls help

i have done this thing many times, but never really understood what the dvd file is for.
1. when i burn from imgburn it wants to use the dvd file instead of the iso.
is it necessary to have the dvd file? i remember burning an iso directly without the dvd file and it played fine. However on a second game, it did not work at all-it burned but it plays like a movie instead of a game.
Also, some of the games that i downloaded do not have a dvd file. can i simply copy and paste a different dvd file from one of my other games?
sorry if its a newbie question, but we all have to start somewhere.

the .dvd file basically just tells image burn what iso file to look for, and what the layer break for that file is. if you manually set the layer break within imageburn itself, you do not need the .dvd files.
you can create the .dvd files yourself with notepad, or you can run the games through agbx, like you should be doing anyways, and it will create it for you.

thanks wab
can u pls explan how to us agbx?? what i normally do is download a torrent, extract the files and use imgburn.
I actually saved all my other games, can i just copy and paste the dvd file from another game? will that work?- you mentioned that i don't need the dvd file if i have layer break on manual. I did this and it just played the game as if was a movie or something.

to use agbx just open up the main application and on the first page there should be a like a 'browse' type box. just navigate to your .iso file and select it and hit the launch button at the bottom of the application.
it will then pop up a CMD type box that will run through some stuff to ensure it has the necessary stealth files, and create the .dvd file needed.
the problem with your games could lie elsewhere though. which games wont work for you? which firmware is currently on your console? if you are trying to play any games that were released after may of this year, you need at least iextreme 1.51.
as for copying and pasting the .dvd files, you can to an extent. you can copy and paste it into the new game folder, but you need to open up the notepad file and change the game name to match that of your .iso file. so if you game is madden2010.iso then the .dvd file should show that.
its kind of hard to explain without having one opened, but once you open up one of your .dvd files, you will see/understand what i saying.

thanks to you guys both. i really appreciate the help. i have downloaded and played many games but never used abgx. i guess it's a good thing i don't play online.
thanks for the help again.
one last question, after running the program, when will it give me the dvd file?

yea, it will automatically put it in the same folder as the iso file is at.

like wabash said, it will put it in the same directory in the iso, but It'll give it to you right when it normally checks for the .dvd file (in the beginning of the stealth check). if it doesn't find an existing one, it will create one.
