I hope this isn't a major hardware issue but was wondering if any additional cooling options are available... It's a benq manufactured on january 28, 2008.

The bad news is that it is a hardware issue. The good news is that there is a 3 year MS warranty on this error.

I just got mine repaired and it was out of warranty, said it on the website. They still fixed it, took about 3 weeks total to get it back, plus free shipping

I haven't check to see what the problem is and I'm hoping that it's an issue with the av cables and not the gpu or ana chip or what ever you want to call it. I bought the xbox from ebay and it came with a 120 day warranty that i voided 60 sec upon arrival. It appears to be an easy self fix but I might just re-flash the drive to an original color the warranty sticker and send it back, hey I might even ask em for an upgrade....

Now I'm just tempted to use a heatgun and fix the problem myself so I can play forza for the next few days...

I would definitely recommend making the box look presentable and sending it to MS. A true reflow by professionals is a lot better than an amateur guessing about how to use a heat gun. Not that the heat gun reflow doesn't have its place, but you don't want to risk your console when you don't have to, IMHO.

How long do the heat gun fixes seem to last? Should I add a cooling system? The method I have seen involves covering the other components with layers of aluminum foil and working the heat gun in a circular motion 2 inches about the chip(HANA right??)for 5 minutes and then letting it cool for 15 minutes. This is then fallowed by another round of heating for 5 minutes and then letting it cool for an several hours.

Ive also looked at a few systems where a 12v is added. Would this be an option as it has already encountered problems?
