weird issue, was fixing an xbox 360 and noticed the right fan wasn't spinning.

Chucked the mutlimeter across the mobo port, two pins show 5v, the other two pins show 10.5v (thats normal). Its the 12v one that isn't spinning. tried a new fan (known working from another console), and had the exact same issue, let it warm up a while until the fan kicked into high speed and still the other fan wouldn't spin.

any ideas?

Speed controller chip has failed

Connect it straight to a 12v feed on the power supply - it will just be noisier as it will run at full speed all the time

thanks, you were spot on, I found another chip on the board with a 12+ve on it and soldered it onto that and it works good, just for anyone else with the same issue, it has to the the chip near the memory card slots, there is at least one other point on the board you can connect it to, but when I did I got 3rings with a power supply failure code (0001).
