Before anyone starts to complain, please note that I did and will continue to search Google. I ask for information dedicated to someone that's a novice because it's the easiest to understand and least likely to be confusing. That being said, I do understand some advanced stuff, and what I don't I Google that to learn more about that. I just don't want anyone mad, or stating "Google" in any variant or phrase or "Search the forums". I have and will continue to do so as well. There's info here on some, but not all of what I'm asking.

Hi. I have the Xbox 360 Modern Warfare 2 Limited Edition. I will say, this system is completely awesome. This is the first time I've actually got to spend some time playing a 360 and I love the console. If you don't like the 360, please don't start a fanboy flame war about PS3's and 360's. It seems everywhere I go people spam threads with it. It's all personal preference. I still play and enjoy my PS2 and will be purchasing a PS3 60GB Ed, which is the only console with the emotion engine (hardware) rather than the software emulation.

Also, if you haven't gotten to play COD: MW2 the game is SWEET! I think when I got my console I left it on for almost 2 or 3 days straight because I played so much.

Main Question/Concern
Anyway. My issue is that I am not able to access the on-board 512MB MU (Memory Unit). My cousin got an Arcade for Christmas and the box says 256MB, yet there was over 320MB available when I checked. I'm guessing it's a 512MB MU in a 256MB MU box. So I want to know why my system doesn't detect my 512MB MU, even when I remove the MC (Memory Card) and HDD (Hard Disk Drive). Is it possible that my unit is defective, at least to an extent?

Other Questions

Short Version:
1) Should I get an Arcade version rather than mod my COD: MW2? I may play on XBL later on.

2) Can I use my 250GB HDD CFG file on a 500GB HDD for an Arcade? I know it has to be a special HDD.

3) What media should I use for backups? I've read a lot, and people say DVD+R or DVD-R doesn't matter. DL of course. Tiayo Yuden doesn't make DL, at least not that I know of, so what brand? Verbatim?

4) Any info specifically engineered for newbies as to backups, flashing, HDD CFG, etc.

Full Version:
I am going to backup my games for my 360 now since I dropped my COD: MW2. I think my heart skipped a beat as it hit the ground and bounced, along with a few exploit deleted's. It has some light scratches, but that's it thankfully. It was enough to make me not want something like that happen again though. I think it's approximately $54 (USD) for another copy if I break this.

I'm just a little lost with the whole backup deal for the 360. I know that I need to flash the drive, and in order to do that I must open the console and void my warranty. That being said, do you think that I should risk it with my COD: MW2 box or get an Arcade and do it to that one?

I'm not sure how to do all of it yet, but I know how to use Google. I tried searching this, but all I found were systems for sale and reviews. Anyway. If you have a straight to the point link, or preferably something someone new to the matter would understand I would greatly appreciate it. Not just because you're saving me time, but I'm pretty sure that the majority of you know what you are doing and have probably been around the block a time or two.

I did order the Kreon drive, and an overly expensive external enclosure (which I wish I didn't, but it's too late now). I will be purchasing a Blaster so I don't have to open the case every time I want to update either. Also, I probably should have mentioned this earlier, but I don't currently play on Xbox Live. I may try to later on though.

I would have already played on XBL, but I am unable to connect. I DMZ the port on the router, read all this stuff on portforward.com and messed with settings and it won't connect to XBL. However, it did manage to be able to connect to update my system. Kinda screwy, but whatever. At least I know that nothing is wrong with the NIC and my system still works. (Always have to try and keep on the bright side of things.)

My other question is if I do need to get an Arcade system, would I be able to get something like a 500GB HDD and use my current HDD cfg file on it to make it a 250GB and use it on the Arcade? I read somewhere that someone did something with a 500GB HDD and figured it would be best due to cost ratio/value and if MS decided to upgrade the HDD again they'd be set. That sounds smart to me, so I figure why not go with 500GB. I'm just not sure if it is possible.

Well, I should be going. It's 6:19 AM. Thanks for any help you may be able to provide. My main focus is why I am not able to access my memory unit.

Best Regards,
Jeremy.

PS - Happy New Year to whomever may be celebrating it.

PPS - Sorry I always type so much.

your xbox doesnt have internal memory if it came with a hdd so that is why it isnt showing up.
only the arcade consoles have internal memory.
i know you said not put search as an answer but if you do search through the threads on this site you will find everything you need to know about flashing your drive and backing up your games.
there are detailed tutorials with pictures and step by step guides.
give it a go.
and let me know how you get on.

Hi & welcome to the forums. Its good to see that you have already done some reseach yourself.

In answer to your questions,

1) I would suspect that your xbox is one of the new unhackable lite on drives, so you prolly will need a older xbox if you want to flash. If it was me, I would get a old second hand one anyway as I wouldnt want to wreck my COD Xbox.

2) You can only use the 250GB file to turn a Western Digital Bevs drive in to a 360 drive, you can use a higher capacity I belive but the xbox will only see 250GB

3) Use Verbatims, nothing else or your will put extra strain on your laser.

4) Flashing Guides are Here and FAQ is Here

On a side note, I would recommend holding off with the Kreon drive for now. The firmware does not do a 100% true rip of the game, only Xbox 360 drives (in 0800 mode) will do this.

In regards to being unable to access your memory unit, I am unsure. I would suspect its either a faulty xbox or your xbox does not have built in memory (which I though they all did now-a-days)
Hope this helps.

Hey. Thanks for the info. I must have read bad pre-release info. The only reason I asked about the internal memory is because I was told I had to have it for NXE. Now from what I can tell I have NXE already, but I was told that I don't. I'm almost 100% certain it's NXE, any clarification would be nice though.

As for the search deal, I already read a lot on the area of backing up the games. The flashing sounds like a possibility for me to brick it.

If I hadn't read mis-informing data, I would have just bought an arcade and saved $350.

$424 via Google & eBay:
- Xbox 360 Arcade 256/512MB MU
- (2x) White Wireless Controllers
- Wi-Fi Adapter
- Official 120GB HDD
- (2x) Charge-N-Play Kits

I don't remember whatelse I found, but everything was cheap on the list. All of that only came to around $350-$370. The Xbox was $150 shipped. I guess I should've bought it. Can't complain or have too many regrets though. At least I have a great console as-is.

@miketrevp
Thanks for the help, although I had already purchased a Kreon drive. :-( Sad to know that they don't back them up properly now. That being said, is there another way to backup games? Perhaps using am Xbox 360 drive? Also, it being a Lite-On drive and not being hackable (which I assume you mean not capable of being flashed to play backups) could I just use a different drive?

Pertaining to the HDD I knew it was either something with a BEV, but I didn't know what manufacturer. Google helped me find all of that info really easy though. I did that right after my first post here.

I figured Verbs, just wanted to be 100% certain. I'm assuming DVD+R DL though so I may booktype.
