What error do you get? "Open tray" or "insert this disk into a xbox 360"

Try cleaning your laser, if that doesn't work search for "pot calibration trick".

LOL, you can get a brand new BenQ drive off ebay for around $20. Just grab one and flash your old drives DVD Key and OSIG to it and you'll be good. Honestly, I dont know how many times I have to say it before everyone gets it but you should install the games you play the most onto your HDD to take the work off the laser.

laser cleaning and pot calibration will usually do the trick. Especially effective on Samsung and Hitachi drives.

If you have to do this, it means the laser is dying and will only buy you time. The samsung's and hitachi's are junk. Get a benQ or Lite-on if you want it to work right and last.

Not necessarily, I've seen some pretty dirty lasers that worked after cleaning. Not to mention everyone has alcohol sitting under their sink somewhere :) Certainly worth a try since it's free compared to $40 or however much the drives are these days.
