Flashed xbox / Unreadable Disk

Hi sorry if im a newb for asking but i looked through the posts but couldn't find anything similar that would help me since im having what seems to be a very specific issue.
I recently took an old xbox 360 with a samsung ms25 drive repaired red rings fixed the cd drive then flashed it for use and all is going well except it has an issue reading burned games after a few minutes. (unreadable disk)
I first flashed the system with ixtreme lt 1.0 for samsung and no success, the games would read mixed media disk or say unreadable, so i then re-flashed and went to ixreme 1.6 which reads the games and plays but only for a couple of minutes then i get the unreadable disk error. Also when i play burned games the disk drive makes a nasty grinding noise that it doesn't make when playing official xbox games.
Troubleshooting -
I cleaned the laser
I tried different starting points for my laser
i cleaned all of the gears
and nothing has worked yet.
When i play a regular game on the system it works flawlessly so assumed the problem might not be the laser.
I have also attempted to save the games to the hard-drive and regular games save fine but when i try to save a burned game it reaches about 40% and then says game unreadable please clean with a soft cloth,
I thought the problem might be the flash i did on the xbox but im not sure since i had a successful write to the drive when i flashed it

Since you've cleaned the laser, the next thing to try imo would be doing a potentiometer calibration. It's fairly easy to do and there are some good guides out there. I cant remember what it's called but there's one particular PDF guide that shows exactly which screw to turn and what resistance values to set. Mind you dont go too low or you could burn the laser, but I've had some pretty good results from drives giving the same issues you're describing.
Failing that, get a new drive and spoof it as the old one
You can also try getting better quality media (verbatim). I use memorex personally but verbatim is supposed to be the best at being easy to read.

yes im def using Verbatim dl dvds...i thought qulaity would do the xbox better in the long run :)
and ive read about recalibrating the pot...but is it possible to do this though without a multimeter? also would that be neccessary since the xbox is reading regular 360 games?
Also does that seem normal that the flashed drive is reading 360 games perfectly and giving me an error midway through burned games only?

You can do the POT calibration without a multimeter by turning it a fraction at a time, its not recommended at all though.
The laser has to work harder to read the disks, so it does sound like POT calibration may help.

so i tried tweaking the pot calibration but no luck.... any other suggestions before i go out and buy a new drive?
After the tweak original games read perfectly and burned games read then after about 2 minutes i got the unreadable disk error :(

You need a multimeter to confirm the POT points / settings. If you're below 280, then it's way too high. I usually adjust down to 3.00. If it still doesn't work there, then the laser is shot. Stock is usually between 4.50-5.00. So if you have to go down to 3.00 to get it to work, then it's time to start looking for a laser. $10 on ebay and cake to install.

i agree, if the pot has to be adjusted past normal running numbers then the laser is shot, the settings are 5.0 to 5.3 on benq and liteon, and 3.2 to 3.3 on samsung and hitachi. these numbers are not very negotiable unlike many have said about setting them hotter to make them work that will not work. if you set the pots on the settings listed and it does not read then laser is shot. i have had problems with benq being the drive board, but that is rare.

Hey guys so i decided to just buy a new drive off of ebay and got an ms28 for about 20 bucks. Ive been looking online to prep for its arrival but im getting different ideas from different post, ive yet to find a solid tutorial on how to swap the drives since i have an ms25 and purchased an ms28.
i found that a lot of sites just told me to change the key on the new drive with the key from my old drive using my original.bin but not too sure how to do this since I haven't found a tutorial
From what i also read i think since my original is an ms25 i cant just switch the pcb board with an ms28.
And last i was wondering, it states here http://www.llamma.com/xbox360/repair/samsung-disassembly.htm that you can downgrade an ms28 to an ms25.. if so can i just downgrade the ms28 to ms25 then just switch the pcb board?
Thanks in advance...ive read many post on the web but just looking for some clarification.

get jungleflasher and read the tutorial on how to flash the drive, samsungs are easy all you have to do is spoof the 28 as 25 and you are done. download JF and follow the instructions. you can go ahead and retrieve your key from the drive you have and be ready when the new one arrives. swapping drive boards is always the easiest fastest safest way, but i cannot remember if you can just switch those models. i'll look through my drives and see if i can find one of each and get back to you on that.

Im really sorry but i just have a couple more questions...
Ive flashed samsung ms25 drives before and they have been pretty simple so far, but by spoofing the ms28 drive do you mean to read the drive then go to the firmwaretool32 page and press spoof target with the original.bin firmware from my ms25 loaded?
and how do i retrieve the key from my original.bin (ms25) because on jungle flasher i see a space where it says key...is it as simple as copy and pasting the key from the original.bin and pasting it when flashing the new ms28...... and if so do i change the key before or after i press spoof sources to target.
Im really sorry again if that was confusing im just a little lost.

open source firmware which will be ms28 then there is a big button in the middle of the page that says spoof source to target it is as simple as that, the drive will have firmware ms28 but will be spoofed as ms25, just be sure to save your key somewhere in case you make a mistake, the key is the most important

I've got the same problem. Did replacing the drive solve your problem? I have a number of drives all flashed to iX 1.61 which would be best for use in the console? It has a Sammy in it now but I don't have a problem spoofing another drive into it. Thanks in advance.

hey im tryin 2 hot swap my xbox 360 and i did everything it says but it only gets up 2 97% everytime culd u help me? is it because i put da moddz on da same disc with the burnt game?

Thx everybody for all the help...I replaced my drive and that fixed all the problems...i guess it was the laser dying in the other drive.
When i recieved the new ms28 in the mail all i did was spoof it to ms25 then fash it with ixtreme lt and it all worked out fine...
