I bought a VIA VT6421 sata card, using jungleflasher it can't find the drive. It only finds the local dvd drive. I have the xbox 360 drive powered by the console, any ideas why the drive isn't being recognized?

You have to put the drive in mode B. You can try to use the slax cd but I couldnt get that to work so I used the wire trick. Its a little risky but it worked for me. It shows you how to do it in the textbook.

First, find out what port that SATA cable is on. An easy way to do this is to look at the port for your detected DVD drive, select it, and then just hot swap your SATA cable over to your Hitachi.

Once you have done this, you can move on and do the "Hitachi specific" stuff in Jungle Flasher. This mostly involves getting the drive into mode B. The easiest way to do that is to use the Jungle Flasher program's "audio CD" method. For that to work, you will need to burn a copy of the Hitachi audio CD beforehand.

Yes I figured out about using the slax disk. Its in mode b now...now I am just trying to use the firmware toolbox and it seems to like to freeze alot. I also tried using jungleflasher, but I am not sure if I have the correct firmware. I have a 78 and there seems to be multiple 78 firmware

Can you dump it using Jungle Flasher?

If not, try DosFlash32.

If that doesn't work, try iPrep or DosFlash16 in true DOS mode, from a boot disc.
