Hey people, I got a Lite-On drive
Model- DG-16D2S-09C
F/W: 83850C

I have a maximus USB probe, Can i flash it?

Also, if I fail to erase it properly, can I recover it?

Any more important info i might need to know appreciated.

Ive done the DG-16D2S without the 09C, plenty of times fine. :)

Cheers :)

Edit:

Of course i can flash it, my bad. I mean, can i safely read the key off this model drive with my Maximus USB probe? You cant do damage by attempting it can you?

And of course, ive already asked, but very important, can i recover this model if i erase the firmware? Ive done it before on an older lite-on and recovered it, but ive never touched this model before, so, recoverable?

Cheers! :)

You need to find which version of the 8xxx series lite on you have, whats the manufacture date on the drive?

You cannot use the probe with this model

Defo no probe, this was patched by MS in the 8 & 9 series drives. Not sure about the fail safe.

You will need to determine if its a v1 or v2,

for v1 (which according to the manufacture date you have provided, you prolly have),

Nothing, you just need your via sata card!

for v2

a 22ohm resitor
a multimeter
a trace repair pen
a soldering iron
some solder
some wire

Follow the instructions HERE

Your saying i can get the drives key over SATA?!

Interesting.

Well, the PDF states:
This change occurred
around July/Aug 09 drive manufacture dates for the v2 drives.

Mine is June 2009. So it should be v1, but i'll still be able to tell if it fails to dump that its a version 2.

BUT! I don't understand why mine is a DG-16D2S-09C
Is the 09c part indicate this cant be flashed?

Just a quick question:

trying to dump the key wont cause any harm will it? :)
And, For anyone really experienced with flashing, before i do this, please, i really
want to make sure it can be recovered as long as i have the key! :D

If it freezes, or fails somehow, even though ill do it in DOS (Ill only get the key and create the firmware in windows) Just in-case, i want to be able to restore it. Sorry for asking this so many times. :)

Also, would you say its a good idea to get the key, spoof it on a Samsung drive and test it to see if the key works before i erase it?

Thanks again! :D

As long as you follow the guide you will be fine.

You shouldnt have this problem as long as you follow the instruction, lite on drives are recoverable anyway

Yes, this is recommended but spoofing to a different model **may** flag you for a ban

Ok, spoofed, worked fine. No worries about the flag, never used online anyway.

So, i have the key. Now, well not now, soon, im going to boot into DOS, and erase the drive, and flash it.

But before i do, some questions! :D

When you select your drive in DOS, you have the option to do like, i think its "LITE-ON E" or something, that you type to erase the drive. Thats in DOSFLASH. But, in tutorials, most people do something like "L-O-ERAS [PORT]" My question is, are they the same? Should i use the DOSFLASH thing to erase it before i write, or either will do? I used the DOSFLASH erase method when i recovered a drive before, because i had problems with the l-o-eras thing. In tutorials it said like it should return FFFF and after a second time it should return like FF70 or something. I always got some random number, but DOSFLASH erased it as soon as i told it to without issues! :D

And another question, since im flashing in DOS, do i have to have the drive tray in the same positions as if i was doing it in Jungleflasher?

Can someone clarify for me, what position should the drive be in for:
Erasing?
And flashing?

Sorry for all the questions haha, Thanks!!

Aaron :)

Thanks!
