From 3 RROD to 2 RROD

I did the xclamp trick with 3 washers under the board after making holes on the metal case and used the heatgun on the cpu/gpu...

When I turn it on I see 3 RROD. The CPU and GPU are heating. A few minutes later it switches to 2 RROD and the GPU starts cooling down... I tried tightening and loosening the screws but the problem persists.

What can I do now?

what about the washers on the top side, how many there? Are they sitting flat against the motherboard and the heatsink is sitting flat against them? What kind of heatgun did you use?

It's a craftsman heatgun and I used 2 washers on top.

did you do ONLY the cpu and gpu with heatgun or did you get the other components as well like in my video? I've seen 2 red errors caused by cold solder joints where the system would act like it was overheating even though it wasnt. If you did only the cpu/gpu, try doing it like in my video where you hit the southbridge, hana and ram as well.

xclamp isn't the proper method and heatgun is by no means reflowing. They will only be temp fixes if you even get it going.

Whats the difference between the heatgun and reflow station? I've been told the only difference is that the reflow station only focuses on the GPU and CPU wheras the heatgun do both those, plus some RAM and HANA chips.

Of course it's reflowing. If the solder melts and reconnects it has reflowed. Overheating is not a reflow because the solder wont melt but heatgunning is. And a lot of people would disagree with you on how long it will last. Myself and many others have had plenty of success getting systems running, and staying running without problems for a long time. Furthermore a reflow station costs more than a new xbox 360 anyway, so what do you want people to do? Heatgun is the most cost effective and efficient repair an individual can do.

@gcooldude yes you're right the reflow station can only hit one chip at a time, where the heatgun method does all of them. The benefit of the reflow station is you can control airflow and temperature very accurately. You would still need to either have an xray so you can see where the break in the solder is or do a different chip if the first reflow doesn't fix the error.

I own both and only use the regular heatgun to reflow the RAM chips neither are a permanent solution if your lucky you could get a year out of this type of fix.

It's obviously intended to fix motherboards. A heatgun is for removing paint. A real reflow consist of an xray to assure that the solder has sealed. A heatgun is a guess method.

strange I feel like I had an identical conversation with gameover9 in my thread. I imagine you re-use the original x-clamps to do your fixes after using your reflow station just like he did right? That's why YOUR fixes dont last longer than a year. And what would you prefer people here that dont have a reflow station do? "PM you for info"?

just woundering if someone could take the time to try and help I started off with the overheating 2 rrod it would start up but not for long done the heatsinks new compound not overheating now i have the e73 and today twice it was e74 with 1 rrod any ideas tried a few things off youtube and looked at other threads but nothing works help please and please dont say freezer lol
