I just noticed when I play my Gears 3 xgd3 even though the game is installed on the hard drive it still spins up the disc and sound like it's playing it from the disc. I'm on a path liteon with LT 1.91. When i hit Y to see game details even the xbox says it's installed. I'm deleting it and reinstalling it now. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this modded or stock.

It stops spinning after a while. It does it on my 360 S which has never been flashed, but once you get into the game the disc stops spinning after 2-3 minutes and then it won't spin up again.

The xbox still has to check the disc in the drive to make sure its what you are launching, otherwise you would just be able to rent games and install them to hard drive.

I know that man, but with any other game you install, the disc spins up for just a few seconds when you boot the game in order to authenticate, i.e. prove that you own it. With Gears 3 it spins for several minutes before it stops.

I was having the same issue with Alice Madness Returns. The game used to spin, then stop and start spinning again on the start menu and kept on spinning after that. A dashboard update came out from Microsoft, The one before XGD3 and that solved the problem. No idea why this is happening but it sure happens with lots of games.

With that particular game, there is a way to boot the game without the disc spinning constantly.
What you do is take a USB stick and put at least 1 MP3 on it. While you're still on the dashboard, press the guide button on the controller and play one of the songs off the USB stick. While the song is playing, boot the game and start it up, then once it's started you can stop the MP3 playing.
I don't know why this works with this particular game, but it does.
