The SATA pins on my Liteon drive are bent and 1 is broken. Is there any way at all to get the key from it? Could I strip a sata cable and directly solder the 7 cables to the 7 contact points on the drive?

I know damn well how to solder, you don't have to be a jerk. If you knew anything at all, you would know that some Xbox 360 DVD drives have lose connectors. It jammed so when I wiggled it out, the port bent and screwed up the pins. I assume that you're not going to help me at all, right?

You can sure try it. Just be sure not to bridge any of your points being that they are so close together. I would recommend grabbing some flux(liquid or paste will do). The most important pins are your Data pins (A+,A-,B+,B-) and just put the grounds together and solder them on a common ground.

P.S. where are you located.

How do I know which contact points are the ones for data? They are not labeled A+, A-, etc. There are two rows of pins, three on top, four on the bottom. Are the four on the bottom the data pins that you mentioned?

P.S. I am in New Jersey.

I just did a search for SATA pinout, that should show you the data and ground pins. Do you already have a second drive to flash with your key?

I do not have a second drive yet. I will only order one if I can get the key from my broken drive. If not, then I'll have to buy another system. In regard to the pinout, thats what I thought it was. I just wanted to be sure.

Hell yes. As long as your connections are correct you should have no problems. What kind of connectivity kit do you have.

I don't have a connectivity kit. I'm having the console power it. I know its dangerous, but I know how to ground it.

What version Lite-on do you have. Most of them needs a probe to get that key.

Model Number: DG-16D2S FW:74850C Regarding the pinout, I meant which pins on the drive are the data pins? The bottom four on the PCB sata port? Thats what I think.

For starters, you won't get your key unless you get a kit that has a probe or you make one. There are some tuts on how to make a probe but it seems like a pain if you ask me. Well its the weekend and if you aren't doing much, maybe you can get your hands dirty.

Regarding the pins, you are playing the guessing game. Sata pins are in the order of Gnd A+ A- Gnd B- B+ Gnd.

Is there any way to do it without a probe? Can I just dump everything on it using jungleflasher without the probe?

In a perfect world yes. What you should do is go on youtube and look at some videos on dumping your lite-on 7 series and you will see what I'm talking about. Are you on the latest dashboard. The new Kinect dashboard.

I am not sure of what dashboard I have. Does it matter? This looks good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZXoix6MIALM I don't plan on using iXtreme and hacking it, but it still explains how to do everything.

If you have an older dashboard, you can jtag your system and get the key that way but that is way more difficult than just reading the key off the drive. I'm in Staten Island by the Beyonne bridge. If you want to send that thing to me I will try to get the key and send it back so you can flash the key in your new drive.

Thats exactly what you need. Philips/Lite-on has no choice but to prevent us from getting the key off the drive because Micro$oft demands that they do. Its just another form of security.

I'm going to try to do it myself first. I just have to borrow my friend's soldering iron. The base of the pins are still there. Should I desolder the pin bases? Is it required, or shouls I solder the wires to what's left of them?

Don't remove anything. Just solder to the points. Get some flux from Radioshack. It make soldering a breeze. Its good for heat transfer and it also helps with preventing bridges. Don't forget that to get the key its not a simple click the read button, the video you linked to is what you are going to have to follow. Best of luck.

My job is done.
