Whilst flashing my benq drive with the 360 USB flashing tool from frosty my PC hung and starting working then not etc?.Ended up with a faulty firmware and E65 code. During the process I asked for the system to backup the original firmware which it said it did. I have scoured my PC and not found the firmware backup (.bin file).

Now jungleflasher is unable to extract a key of the drive and with a lost firmware dump I am screwed?..

What I did find on my PC was a bin file created at roughly the time of the flash in the folder c:\\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\EventCache. It is a bin file and the name fits the 32 firmware key length exactly. The file is only 2 kb so not the firmware file but I thought I may have lucked out and found the dvd key. However, this ?key? does not seem to work after using firmware tools and jungle flasher to reflash the drive. I just get the classic ?input an Xbox 360 disc etc?

My question is?..Is this the key that I have found? Is my 360 FUBAR?d and do I now need to invest in an arcade unit to replace the expensive door opener?

Your iXtreme firmware should have been in C:/benfiles.

It should have saved the key.bin in a folder within that folder. C:/benfiles/??????? is the location.

"???????" represents the name of the folder it asked you save your key in, whilst you were flashing.

Hope you find it.

Bin files should be 256KB in size. A valid DVD key would have the numbers 0-9 and letters A-F.

Sadly no benfile directory.... wish I had used jungle flasher first time rather than messing around in dos programmes. Pants!

Anyone know if this cold be the key even though it was in the eventcache folder?

Cheers

Don't think it will be, I've just gone to that location on a pc that's never been used for flashing and I have the same format key

Cheers guys, thought as much. guess it may come in useful for spares etc. I should be able to reuse (spoof)the benq drive with the new 360 if it comes with a crappy hitachi or sammy.

I have to say the dos based flashers are difficult to use and seem to be pretty unreliable whereas jungle flasher looks to be easy. I would recommend non experts using windows based flashing.

Sorry about the 360. The GUI flashing programs are definitely easier as you can see what was dumped and where it is at. DOS works for recovering drives but I wouldn't recommend it for beginners. Only a last resort.

Yeah, on ebay. Made back my money on red ringed consoles this way before.

Gonna quote UK pounds here

£20 : DVD drive
£25 : Power Supply
£15 : Case
£25 : Controller (you'll get one with your new xbox)
£10 : RF Board
£15 : AV lead

Over £100 there and xbox's only cost £120

Good luck and sorry you couldn't get your key.
