hey all, i was just wondering i have an un modded xbox 360 thats been working perfectly since i bought it, now all of a sudden it won't read one of my games WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2010, now i bought the game back in october when it came out and its been working perfectly up until last night, now i put the game in and the 360 boots to the dashboard and says reading then just open tray, the game has next to no scratches on it but i brought it into my local game store to get it buffed anyway and it worked perfectly fine in there 360's, so i came home and tested a few of my other games old and brand new releases and they all worked perfectly fine, can anyone please help me with this? i don't want to send it to microsoft and have to wait 20 years to get it back and i'm pretty sure my 3 year warranty is used up so i would have to pay like $150 too, thanks in advance!

It could be a dirty laser, try blowing some air into the dvd drive with the tray open. Either with an air compressor of a can of air.

Your laser is probably getting a bit weaker with age.

You should first open the DVD drive and clean the laser lens with q-tip and alcohol and see if that helps any.

You may need to either replace the drive, replace the laser lens, or do a so-called pot calibration or pot tweak on the laser. I would recommend trying the pot calibration on the laser as a first step after cleaning the lens.

This basically means changing the resistance on the power going to the laser itself. If you lower the resistance you can get more power to your laser. This can extend the use of your laser for a while longer before you have to eventually replace it. You can find directions for the pot calibration in tutorials and threads at this site, but I don't know the exact location.

While you have the case opened and the DVD drive out, you may want to think about modifying the firmware as well, if you want to do that. There are guides for that, as well. The Jungle Flasher tutorial is a good place to start.

$38 on new discs -- Check
$15 on burn after burn that showed as a DVD -- Check
$11 on new laser -- Check
$28 on new multimeter -- Check
