My grandson wants Turtle Beach X31 for Live. I researched and the X31 are stereo, and not surround sound. The X41 (?) are surround, but ahem, $199. Anyone using surround headphones for Live that won't break my wallet?

Maybe check Craigslist. I got some x41s from there for $60. Totally worth $60 (not so much $199 :). I love em. No wires necessary other than the optical cable from the receiver to the xbox. The headphones themselves run on AAA batteries, which lasts a surprisingly long time

Yeah, I did that. Found Tritton AXPro for $75, but he isn't answering, probably sold em.
I'll keep checking, thanks for the input.

the turtle beach x4 or the x41 are the best surround headsets imho for the simple reason that they are the ONLY surround headsets that are wireless. i have a pair of astros which are wired and supposedly high quality, but the wires were a deal breaker so i went back to the x4's. i have friends who have the wired turtle beaches and they are more prone to breaking because you cant replace wires that are fixed to the headset. the x4\1 have replaceable parts everything from the puck to the mic to the headset itself.
the obvious problem is that they are expensive so if you not gonna pay for the wireless go for the tritton's because they get surround sound unlike the turtle beach wired sets. ive heard complaints about the older tritton's not picking up your voice unless you yell but i cant imagine that they didnt fix the poroblem
