i've got an older xbox, that came with a 20g HD. It has whatever drive mod or DVDfirmware mod that was current about a year ago (im not sure how to check) and it plays the backup games that I have, (all older titles)
It's running the normal Xbox Firmware Dashboard 2.0.8955.0 and it hasn't been connected to the internet for probably over a year now.
What I would like to do, is get some newer game titles and back them up, as well as connect to the internet and get some Xbox Live arcade titles like Castlevania SotN.
My main concern is that my current DVD firmware mod flash thingy won't play newer titles (I vaguely remember having that problem in the past) and also that I might be banned from Xbox Live and unable to get the Arcade titles (if there is an alternate way to get these titles on my 360 please let me know.
I also want to backup my new games from the legitimate discs. I've searched around on how to do this and i think it requires a custom dashboard. I've searched around on how to do that though and i just get completely confused. Any help or instruction or just a link to a tutorial would be greatly appreciated.
You don't need to mess with your dashboard. The first thing we need to know, though, before we go wasting anyone's time, is whether or not you are able to flash your dvdfirmware. (Did you do it yourself, or have someone do it for you?). From what you said, I take it that you are backing your games up yourself, though. (since you need to flash to 0800 firmware, then back to whatever firmware you use to play them).
To answer your question, though, you don't need to do anything with a dashboard, and your system is not jtagged or jtaggable, so don't worry about it. My advice is to flash it to stock firmware (you still have it, right?), then go online and do whatever you need to do (get arcade games, updates, or whatnot). Then download the newest drive firmware (LT+ 1.1 is the newest that I know of, but it depends on what drive you have). Then get together the games you need to backup, flash your drive to 0800, back them up, then flash it to LT+ 1.1 (or whatever) and play away like normal. No activation.iso or anything needed. But, of course, avoid online while using spoofed dvd firmware and/or backups.
hahaha, you've assumed i know way more than i do. I haven't backed up any games myself. I also don't have to means to flash my DVDfirmware. I had someone from craigslist do it. I want to start backing up my own games but I'm lost on how to go about that. Although if I have to open my console every time and flash the DVD then it's probably not worth the hassle.
It's not every time, it's just once, till Microsoft release a new update, and it's usually once a year type of thing since the firmware that's provided by C4E is getting harder and harder to identify from the real deal
ok well, i'm found a way to acquire the game backups for any game i might buy. Also I've found someone who will flash my dvd drive to the laters LT versions. So I think im pretty well sorted for now. thanks!
