I repairs my console with xclamp repair. Replaced xclamp with screws. It worked fine for about 2 months now rrod again. And towel trick will get it working for a day or so but soon after rrod again. What should I try now? I belive it is status code e17.

I am here standing. I never sit.

Haven't come across e17. but i would not keep doing the towel trick. Heard bad things about how everything gets to hot. I would suggest maybe using better thermal compound on the heatsinks. I have fixed xbox's that already had the x-clamps removed by reapplying the thermal paste.

Here is a link with a lot of info you may have not seen before. e17 is listed as unknown.

hope any of this could be of some help.

ya, i would try using different/better thermal compound...unforturnatly, ive seen the xclamp mod only working for a couple months(like your case).

Sure ive seen a few where people claim the xbox worked for years after, but a lot of people get rrod after another couple months.

I always warn when i fix boxes that once it RROD's its got one foot in the grave.

Hey OP, here's a thread that people discus pastes. Arctic Silver usually takes the cake.

and here is a link to get it from newegg

make sure it is clean again because you dont want to inhibit the effectiveness of the new paste by leaving any of the old paste one the chips. i found that when its almost clean, a toothbrush with some kind of cleaning compound works really well to finish up removing any of the excess paste. just scrub in circles.

Good Luck!

E17/0101
USB port (bridged pins)
you have to look at the pins at the bottom of the usb jack and make sure nothing is shorting them out, use a soldering iron to clean around the pins make sure none of them are touching each other. this is what can happen from the towel trick and overheating the board. clean those pins and that error should go away.

Using the towel method will damage your motherboard. PM me if you want to get the board reflowed.
