Okay, so I'm pretty much a noob in all of this and I just got a 'moded' 360 to play the 'back up' games. It works and everything but when I try to connect to xbox live & it asks me to update my console version. Will that make my 'back up' games not work?
If I do get through that and manage to get on live & be able to play 'modded games', is it safe? 'cuz I hear people saying that the xbox has some godly ability to store what types of games you've played, send to xbox live and get you banned. So is it possible to not get banned?
and one more thing, I hear that the "November Kinect Patch" banned alot of players when updated to so is there a way to stay upto date with all the updates and know if they are safe or not?
Sorry for all the questions, thanks alot in advance for answering my unbelievably long and boring and dry post.
Oh and one more thing:
Wehn i go to console settings, my dashboard version is- 2.0.8955.0
1. Yes updating will reflash your drive and stop backups from booting.
2. Reflashing drive with lt1.9 will allow you to play on live but its always risky and you might be banned no matter how safe you are.
3. The xbox can log failed challenges and send them to MS to flag you for a ban even when playing offline.
4. You can usually stay up to date just by browsing threads on here, or by visiting #fw every few days, never apply an update without searching internet first to make sure it is safe.
And before applying new update you will probably have to flash original fw to your drive first other wise it might not complete, cause it will detect its not original. Just make sure to get your dvd key before doing anything else.
@Mr.Mike
thanks for replying!
okay im really noob at this, so first of all,
modding and flashing are different right? I'm pretty sure mines 'modded' as i dnt use burnt games but the 'back up' ones that i get for like 5 bucks.
does this changes things?

Modding = enhancing anything about the 360 (light kits, plexiglass, 12v fan, etc..
flashing = writing new firmware to the 360's DVD Drive.
Backups and burned copies are exactly the same thing. Any non-original game can get you banned if they aren't backed up properly and patched with the necessary files to keep you "Safe" on Live. It's best to wait for the final LT2 firmware to be released. Also, when the firmware is released, the games that you bought for $5 won't work anymore. They will need to be re-ripped, patched, and burned again for the new firmware to see and play the game properly.
Oh god, its all so confusing but i think i kind of get it. Okay so I'm just gonna wait until this heavenly L2 thing comes out then try live. Thanks alot guys!
It is confusing Ruki99. I just got my son a Xbox today so i know absolutely nothing about this subject. I'll keep an eye on this though. . . . So can you get cheap copies of games and do something to the console to make them work?

I wouldn't know how to do any of that! Is there a tutorial anywhere?
