have fw hacked a benq before, but never a Hitachi, let-alone a 78fk. I need alot of assistance please, seeing how I have been up for almost a week trying to accomplish this fw flash, but no progress at all. Here is what I face: Everyone says different in their posts. they start to come together than someone counters it with a proven theory. Heres my issues: I have a windows XP pc with a VIA VT6421 SATA(RAID) controller , with an IDE motherboard. My drive cannot be read at all in JungleFlasher, iPrep, or anyother other program I have tried, and it does not read when windows boots up either. I have portio32 installed, but no drivers for my VIA VT6421 (some say to use drivers, others say no, so confused). I hear some say it worked for them, others it didn't. They used Slax, or they would install the drivers to their via chipset. As you can see, i'm quite confused & exhausted. I only have back-ups, so now I have all these games & no system to play them. please, I need help, badly. If you have any questions, ask away. oh by the way, I hear of something called modeB which is done through either JungleFlasher or Slax. quite clueless. I'd like to go the JungleFlasher way, seeing that I have no discs to burn a Slax disc, just dl discs. Help me make some what of progress. Thanks for any help , GREATLY APPRECIATED!

ok modpoint

1st off d/l the JF 1.66 tutorial http://www.jungleflasher.net/files/JungleFlasher.pdf and the latest version of the JF tool.

next off the 78 series does not require a disk to get into modeB if you are using JF. Follow the flow chart in the tutorial but dont get hung up on not recieving a drive letter in the hitachi tab, as long as the port properties gives you the drive model and version you are away. I spent way too long restarting JF trying to get a drive letter assigned when, if i read the tutorial properly it told me exactly what to expect.... doh!!!

Have another go with JF and let us know here where you get up too and what issues you come across with JF. If you stick with the 1 flashing tool then we can whittle down the issues you are having.

I have JungleFlasher, but what is JFTool? googled it & found nothing but CK3 Tool. I'd like to not buy any hardware if possible, seeing as I have no credit card to buy stuff online, & I flashed my old BenQ without any hardware but a VIA VT6421. I also was wondering if the drive is supposed to show up in windows boot list, because it doesnt. Do I need my card drivers, because judging by all the vids & tuts I have read, the majority of them say to not not install the chipset drivers, just the PortIO32, which I have. Also you mention about it showing up in the left tab in JF, however it does not. Thanks for replying. Keep in touch please.

Also to note, I have read the guide through & through several times within the past week, & nothing. plus, when I bring the drop down list, on the left side for ports, I see only four of them. No 360 drive though. Is PortIO32 not working the way it's suppose to or something?

Well, what do I do then. Install the VIA drivers and use FW Toolbox or stay with JungleFlasher. I got it to set in modeB, but when i go to read the f/w under the port io tab i get raw dump failed. But when i got to windows api tab, it saves firmware, or says it saves it, but doesnt find the key. the reason why i said says it saved it because when i load up fw tool box 4.8, it says firmware is invalid. so basically heres what im working with:Dumping f/w of Hitachi 0078/0079 by Ram Upload Method via WIN32 API
................................
Hitachi Dump file saved to C:\Documents and Settings\modpoint\Desktop\Dad\Hit-OFW.bin

Loading Hitachi Dump file
Firmware type is:

thats where the box pops up and says no key. a little help. i need to know if i should install these via drivers or not.

Hitachi's can be difficult, there never seems to be one sure way to do them all.

Im assuming your getting in to mode B ok?

If you are, try using a different sata port. Also, try getting in to mode B with slax, even if jungle flasher is reporting mode B ok.

Try switching from Ram Poke to classic and the other one (cant remember what is it off the top of my head.
