Sup,
So I got a RROD 360 on Ebay for $35 USD. I got it in the mail today. I took the box apart and did a mobo reflow and X-clamp following guides I got here off the scene. It worked! she started right up! Well :sigh: I put a DVD in the drive and I can hear it spin and it says reading on the screen but after a little bit open tray pops up on screen and nothing else happens. Tried this with a DVD movie and a game. Anyone have any insight on whats going on? Did I get a 360 with a bricked/broken drive? Now the case it self was in a little crappy shape like someone did a real bad job opening it up, the M$ sticker was gone and someone made a big X on the top of the drive with a pencil. Im also wondering if maybe they swapped the drive out with a broken one before they sold it on Ebay. What you guys think? Anything else I can try or sound like this drive is done? If so any suggestions where I can get another drive? My plans are to flash the drive so I can run my back ups.
sounds like someone switched drives on you, but maybe just the drive is bad. you could role the dice and buy a hitachi drive and switch pcb boards but since its been opened before you really cant tell whats goin on.
Check the dashboard version of the console as you may be able to jtag it. Also, it could have been a failed flash...drive may be stuck in vendor mode...etc. Try dumping it and see if it gives you a key. If not, chick the dump with a hex editor to see if you can locate it that way.
"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."
Sorry, I meant "check the dump" with a hex editor. I've managed to obtain a drive key by using a hex editor on a bin file after the dump. The bin contained a lot of 00s which probably meant that different banks had been erased but fortunately for me, the drive key was on a bank that had not been erased.

So I cleaned the laser and the same results, So Im wondering if the 360 detects the drive opening ,closing and says reading when I stick a disk in, am I righting in thinking this drive has the right PCB board in? Or are you thinking that because it was a bad flash they damaged the board? So if it was a bad flash is it not possible to buy a new drive and put the PCB from my drive in? Sorry for the noobish questions I'm new to flashing.
Thanks for all the help
The drive probably has a bad laser, you should get another hitachi and swap the pcb from yours to the new one and see will it work, if you get "play dvd" with a game in the drive then you likely have a key mismatch (wrong pcb) and you'll have to do the jtag hack if you have the right version and attempt to get the drive key from it.
