My problems are two fold...I was going to help this guy out and it turned out badly. He had bought a "premodded" console off craigslist and some backups work and some don't. The ones he described as not working are the new Need for Speed and ODST. I immediately thought it was just his firmware needing updating. He tried contacting the guy he got it from before and the guy said "You just need to get a game save of the original on there and then it'll work man". Tried it for a laugh, but obviously didn't work. Lol, was funny though, anyway...

Bit of background...my via card does not have drivers installed, viamraid does not exist on my harddrives, and Port IO is installed correctly. I have done 20 flashes of varying drives, all without any problem (all except for hitachi)

I tried to reflash it myself and I have NEVER done a hitachi...needless to say I found they were a huge pain in the ass. I use a VIA card (Rosewill RC215) and my first problem was the Port I/O button was grayed out. However, my drive did show up in it's usual port with "VIA Ports only" checked. I then put it into mode B just fine, but because I could not select the Port I/O button, obviously it wouldn't let me interact with the drive beyond that. So I could just use Win API, but my drive wouldn't show up in the right side list. Now I knew it was because I still had it hooked up to my sata card without drivers, so I tried putting it directly in one of my mobo's ports. Suprisingly it was recognized on a port, both in the BIOS and in JF. But it still wouldn't show up in that right side list and Port I/O was still grayed out.

Now I may have figured out a simple solution (I don't have the drive currently to try it) but will the drive not show up in the right hand list until you put it into mode b? I had connected it straight to my mobo, but I did not try putting it in mode B then as I thought it was a wash when I didn't see it initially show up.

Also, not that I probably need to do this, but if I installed drivers to the VIA Card, would it show up in the right hand list also after putting it into mode B? Like I said I will use the motherboards sata if possible, just curious about this.

Now for the exact process...since his is already flashed, the series of events should be: put into Mode B, dump firmware, restore firmware to stock, flash new IExtreme. Is that all correct? Thanks for any help...I've done tons of flashes, but Hitachi is definitely a different kind of beast

Hi McEgan

in the new 1.66 edition of the JF manual it states that:

VIA users with no drivers, must utilise the PortIO option
you will not be assigned a drive letter in windows with no drivers!!! ? You can still
dump/flash the drive ? it just will NOT SHOW UP IN THE DRIVE LIST!

What version of hitachi drive are you playing with? as that dictates how you get the drive into vendor mode then follow the JF manual or Leerage's guide, both more than adequate to help you finish upgrading the fw to your drive.

Simples.....
