how come i can't connect any pc to my xbox360?

ok, i've googled it and followed the tutorial but my xbox 360 still can't find any computers.
so this is what i want to be able to do:
i wanna watch videos and play mp3 on my xbox by streaming them from my pc.
my pc is windows xp pro and it doesn't have a media center.
both my pc and xbox are connected to my home network which is called 'SWEETHOME'.
both my pc and xbox are connected thru wifi.
first i ran windows media player 11 on my pc, then 'library', then 'media sharing' and i am able to see 'xbox 360' listed there.. so i let it share (allow).
then i go to my video library on my xbox, then 'computer', but it says my xbox is not connected to any computers.
what am i doing wrong?

What happens when you go in to guide button menu - select music? Does it show any computers?

Never attempted to stream have to assume it's nothing more than ftp & since comp can see but xbox can't & assuming 360 is setup correctly then firewall is all i can think of,better still dump the 360 & upgrade to the original xbox & either flash or chip it & use a real xbmc :p

Like scorp said, probably a firewall issue. Disable Windows Firewall and try again. Also try it with WMP11 running on the PC while you try to access the videos from the Xbox.

You may even have to reboot the 360 after shares setup or just go back over everything step by step & make sure a digit or whatever is where it should be & double check again to make sure,done that many times when trying to transfer & had a numeral misplaced..lol..

why not just use tversity or orb. they are MUCH better than WMP or media center. you can actually watch whatever file formats you want. and its a lot easier to navigate.

I have been streaming a lot through my 360 lately using WMP. It is a pain in the ass, so I tried TVersity, but it wouldn't let me install it on my Vista computer unless I disabled UAC (User acct control). I didn't want to do that, and so I couldn't install it.
I will try Orb as well. Thanks for the tip.

heck, i would just disable the UAC, its stupid and annoying. i disabled it as soon as i installed vista on my desktop and as soon as i turned on my new laptop.

UAC is annoying, but it doesn't really bother me that much, so I just keep it enabled. I like the security benefits it offers, especially since I download a lot.
Orb installed fine...still waiting to test it out since the significant other is already streaming TV via the Xbox.

Agreed! UAC is the dumbest thing ever created! Plus it locks out things you don't want it to. In vista make sure all media sharing is turned on. Works fine on vista even though it's crap.
