I've just flashed a samsung ms28 with ixtreme 1.6 but i can't copy any games. My pc recognises the drive at post and in the bios but windows doesn't. Any ideas?
I had a bit of trouble working this out, the guides aren't really very clear on it. So I'll share what I've figured out.
What I did: First of all make sure the SATA controller you're using supports SATA DVDs, the JMicron one I used for flashing didn't, which confused me. Turn off the computer, power on the drive, wait till it ejects fully, power off the drive (360 power supply, unplug power cable, CK3, flick the switch), push the drive in a bit more than halfway (I do it so I can just see the rounded hole in my Benq), power on the drive, power on the PC. Once in windows you should have a normal 'CD' drive in My Computer. Press eject to close the drive, open it again, stick in your original game and then start ripping. use XBC.
You're using a 360 based power supply I take it. From what I've read you will need to either hold the tray while its trying to go in (.....not cool) or open up the box and actually plug and unplug the DVD drive cable. Be careful though, putting it back in the wrong way will fry your drive and pulling at the wires a lot could separate them from the plug! I use a blaster CK3, makes it all simpler and without risk.

Make sure you have A/V cables plugged in to your 360 while you're trying to back up games. The cables don't need to be hooked into a TV, but make sure they're plugged into the back of the 360. If not, after about 4 or 5 minutes, the 360 will shut off. Did this help? I hope so. Good Luck!
