Just wondering, I'd hate to hate the RROD so I try to keep mine as cool as possible.

I have it vertically, with a cooling fan stand underneath. I also only play games from the HDD?

Just like peoples opinions?

I have installed a whisper fan on the consoles. I run the console horizontal because gravity plays hell on the heatsinks. I've seen a lot of RRoD consoles with the junk thermal paste from Microsoft run down the side of the chips.

Would you say Horizontal is better than vertical with a cooling fan?

Personally, I run all my consoles horizontally for that very reason. Whisper fans will help out with the heat if you are worried about that.

This picture was taken from a RROD console. The picture is of the GPU and it had the extended GPU cooler. Console was ran vertically for the majority of its life.

i just leave my console running all the time to keep it cool. hell, come to think of it, its even stuffed in the entertainment center with a router sitting on top of it, and a receiver, a dvd player, and a satellite dish receiver there as well. never has RROD on me or anything.

Come talk with us on efnet at #elitemods !!! or just click ME

Think as far as cooling mods go i have
-blue whisper fan
-blue xcm v2 fans
-as5
-metal grill removed from behind fan
-vga ram heatsinks

I think that's about it
The v2's run at 12v connected to a molex connector i soldered to the underside of the power connector.

So far with a infared temp gun i'm reading exhaust temps about 8-15F hotter than room temp (cpu runs 5-7F hotter than gpu). The box is mostly cool to the touch and it's been on for about 13 hours straight today.

I always have my console vertical, i figure there's not much as5 between the heatsink and the processor dye and it's not going to drip or run down the processor.

Here's what the v2's look like

You can see one of them pulls air in from the bottom and blows it on the cpu heatsink, the other sits on top of the gpu heatsink extension.

Pulse peripheral intercoolers keep my xbox as cool as my other one with a whisper max fan, they're only $20 aswell... but they sound like you have a vacuum cleaner attached to you xbox.

My 360 sits on top of my entertainment center. It's next to the center channel speaker and it doesn't have any fans. Theres nothing on it or around it. Plus I live in AZ and after playing it for hours it only feels warm. I don't think you need anything to keep it cool as long as it has plenty of room to breathe.

Eh it's really not that bad, i set the xbox a little bit behind the tv and most of the sound is blocked.

On this vid i only have my tv at 5 or so, i usually play with it on 10-15. The surround sound is turned up to about 14 or so and stays on all the time.

Sure you can still hear it if you listen for it, but i seem to block it out after a few mins of playing.

Here's what it looks like when it's off

The flash makes the elite look more grey than black but in regular light the side blends in pretty well. I might have done one too many coats of tint spray though.
