So I have a 360 Elite that I bought refurbished and it got the E74 error. I sent it to M$ for repair since it's covered for free on their 3-year warranty. Turns out they didn't do the refurb, it was some other company so I couldn't get it fixed since they call it tampering. That'll teach me to buy refurbished from a retailer.

Now I'm searching on craigslist and it seems most people who actually do provide their own "warranty" are only covering their repair for a month, which makes me wonder if my 360 would just break after a month. So can you guys experienced in doing this give me an assessment on how long you think the repair would last?

If it's not long then I might as well just buy a new 360 slim.

It depends on the method used TBH. Most shops will do a shooddy xclamp fix alone, which last a couple of months if your lucky. If it has been reflowed, it should be a good long term fix depending on the reflow method used.

Thanks for the speedy response!

Would that be depending on whether it's a heat gun or a "proper" reflow station?

Heat gun reflow - "can" work good.
Reflow station - works much gooder.
Reball - works the gooderest.

let me guess, you bought it at GameStop/EB Games/BestBuy ? They use third party company's to repair/refurbish their game systems that have failed. NEVER buy refurbished from GameStop/EB Games/BestBuy! If you do, buy an en-tended warranty from them that covers their work. This way if it fails you can bring it back to them and get it repaired/ exchanged.

just make sure you have alot of air flowing over it by moding your fan with the 12v mod, it will make the fix last longer also

I fixed mine over a year ago with heatgun and griddle. Did 12v fan mod including sealing up around shroud and heat sinks so it pulls air completely through heat sinks instead of just the back half of them, loud but runs much much cooler, and also replaced x-clamps. No problems so far, and dont think I'll be having any.

2 very good points made here!

12v fan mod & extend the normal fan shroud to cover more of the smaller heatsink. Both will only do good things.!
