I hav a XBOX 360 that is banned from XBOX live and i have recently got a used 60GB hard drive from a freind. When i attach the hard drive and try to play a game it prompts me to preform a system update. If i select no it will not let me play any games. I can remove the drive and every thing is normal and i can play all my games. I have not performed the update because i think it is trying to update the XBOX to the kenict dash. Is there any way to remove the update from the hard drive? I have tried to fromat it and clear the cache but the system update seems to still be there. Sorry for the newbe question but i'm not sure how to remove this from the hard drive so i can use it without haveing to update to the new dash. Thanks for the help in advance.
I would try updating without being connected to the internet, if you're not connected, theres no way it can grab the kinect dash, unless you are attempting to play a newer game in that case, the kinect dash update is on the game and you have to update to play it.

I thought that once you updated your console to the latest dash (via live) that dash is stored on the hard drive. Now since he said he got it from his friend, this is maybe what happened. Now the hard drive is being transferred to a system that does not have the update, it is trying to pull the update from the hard drive, and will update any xbox its attached to. Regardless of if its connected to the internet or not, it will update to whatever dash is stored on the drive...
I know there is a program that will allow you to access the partitions on the hard drive, I just don't know if by modifying any of those files will cause you to get banned when you DO connect to live.
