I mainly just want to play backups, and do it on Live (if possible).

What would be the best method to do this? What will I need?

I've looked alittle into it and I already have a Dual-Layer DVD+burner and Imgburn. I'm just not sure about what chip to buy

read the jungle flasher tutorial. google it, or find it elsewhere, and follow it based on which drive you have. no sense in chipping the drive as its a waste of money.
