Ok, so my buddy just threw his xbox out. I picked it up and brought it home. I tore it apart, very gingerly, and discovered that the door doesn't eject. Its got a BenQ in it from what I can tell. Model number VAD6038. I was wondering if the drive out of my elite will work, or if I can buy another BenQ online or just a disk drive motor to fix it. I can't get the dang door to open up at all. It's on lockdown. Any help would be awesome. My elite crapped out(no video output) and I want to fix this one and the other one eventually. Thanks.

You can't just swap drives without flashing the the new drive with a key from the old one you're replacing. You need to be a bit more specific here. When you say the drive does not eject...is it stuck? is there no power to the drive? Is the green light on the front of the console flashing or solid?

"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

If your's is also a BenQ, you can put your drive into your friend's box, making sure to switch the drive's cicuit boards.

In other words, for a working box, you need:
his console,
your drive,
his drive's circuit board.
(because his drive's board has the matching key to his console's motherboard)

The same holds true if you buy a new BenQ.
