I am having a real hard time finding a kreon drive locally. I do have a samsung sh-s182M external drive I dont mind opening to do the hotswap method. All of the guides I have seen are from 2006 2007. Do any of you still use this method? I refuse to d/l or pay for the service so I am trying to work with what I got. Also, why are all the sections about ss files removed or vague? This is my first post here so I dont want to ruffle any feathers, but what I dont understand is why would a image made with the hotswap method be any different than one made with a kreon drive? So much so that I would have to manually insert an ss file?

Anyway, any help is appreciated. PM me if need be.

Oh, also, will I have to have my firmware reflashed every time a new game comes out, or when a new dashboard comes out? I have been trying to read previous posts as much as possible but I havent found what I am looking for as far as answers go.

I just bought my xbox this morning, so I actually havent had it flashed yet. I am trying to get these questions answered before I open the box. Also, are all drives flashable? I bought a microsoft refurbished pro edition from gamestop figuring since they dont make the pro anymore it would for sure be flashable, but I see the date on the sticker is november 22 2009. I know there was some discussion about anything made after august 2009 was un moddable, but like I said, most posts I have been reading are outdated.

Thanks again.

First, Kreon drives are no longer up to date. You need to have an Xbox 360 drive flashed with 0800 firmware if you want to to do your own rips and have them turn out properly. Second, I think the drives not flashed with special firmware such as Kreon or 0800 do not have the ability to read the stealth files.

You basically only needed to re-flash when a new dashboard came out. This was due to needing to update the stealth checking on the firmware. However, the stealth checking turned out to be what got people banned. NOTHING is safe on Live right now. But non-stealth firmware is probably the best way to go if you absolutely NEED to, and non-stealth firmware does not ever require being updated due to dashboards or games.

Basically, if you're going to get your Xbox flashed now, DON'T go on Live. And yes, all drives are currently dump-able and flash-able, though some take quite a bit more work than others.

Thanks for the reply.

Wow, yeah, there was a lot I was missing. So, I need to find a broken 360 on craigslist and flash that drive with custom firware and install it in my PC? Are there any instruction to make one of these drives a USB device so I can use it on my laptop?

Maybe a link or something so I can stop bumping this thread?

Thanks again.
