Without opening the console? I don't have the tools to unscrew the small screws and I can't get inside of it..I tried a DVD lens cleaner disk and compressed air, but no go.

It's probably not a problem with being dirty anyway. It's probably a problem with the laser getting weak. You will most likely need to do a pot calibration or replacing the laser or drive itself, unfortunately. That is assuming that the errors you are getting are 'Open Tray' or 'Play DVD'(which could also be caused by older versions of iXtreme not liking newer wave games/games that have invalid splitvid).
