Hi I am thinking of purchasing an xbox 360 at the beginning of next year and I just found this. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Gaming/Xbox-360...n-255836965.htm As it says at the top

Only few in stock at this reduced price so be in quick, as new consoles at shops now are un-modable

Is this BS for are they just trying to get people to pay an extra $50 to get a modded console?

Not BS. Any console made after aug. 09 cannot currently be modded. You can get a $200 console and mod it yourself.

No. I bought a brand new Arcade with a manufacture date of July.

prior to what mfg date should i look for arcade edition if i intend to mod it?

As gameover mentioned, it seems as though August 2009 is when the undumpable drives started showing up. Try Craigslist, Ebay, or a site like CAG where you can ask someone the manufacture date on the console. Chances are there are a bunch of Arcade's floating around after the Walmart and Amazon promotions. I bought mine from a trading site for $160, brand new.

i went to the store and brought arcade edition and the mfg date is 2009-08-22 0934X Team FDOU Lite-On Jasper

You can always try and buy a new one to see what drive you get. Then take it back if you can't mod it ;)

all the console mfg date in the store was oct and up

how would i know this console cannot be modified?

i brought all the tools to mod but never did it.

I think I might try this tactic maybe living in New Zealand will give me an advantage as they might not have shipped the new ones in yet.

oh well i will keep the arcade and use my current xbox HD to play Xlive and use my 60gb edition console to play offline, since there is no way to verify if this arcade edition can be mod.
