JTAG disc is unreadable, external HDD

I have a JTAG'ed 360 without an HD in the standard slot, I run everything off of an external HDD and it was working fine. However recently, everything I try to play with has the unreadable disk error on booting, even when trying to read off an original disk. Xexmenu and freestyle dash boot fine, and I can play XBLA games, any ideas?

so your getting the error when you try to play a disc only ?
