I just got a liteon 7xxxx in my arcade xbox. I was wondering is the CK3 100% nessecary? Cant you just use a USB probe seen here?

Can I use this probe & power the drive with the 360 instead of wasting the 30 bucks to buy the CK3 that im only gonna use for 3 seconds? wont it still read the dvd key? someone please clarify before i make a purchase.

Yes, you can use the USB probe and use the 360 as a power source.

link doesnt work. but it should work. however, i prefer the ck3 as i can use it for any other drive i flash and dont have to power the entire xbox to power the drive.

yea it would work. but if your going to spend 25 bucks, you might as well spend 15 more and just get the ck3/probe or the extractor/spear combination. that way you can just use the computer to power the drive.

i would if i had the dough. funds are low right now. I dont really understand spending the extra 15 for something that isnt 100% necessary... i dont really mind using the 360 to power it.

well its believed that the console logs that it was powered on without the dvd drive connected to the console. and when you log into live all that information, along with what games you played and whatnot, is sent to MS. and obviously the console would only have been turned on without a drive for one reason, thus throwing a red flag towards a possible banning down the road.
and if you can figure out how to mod other drives, you can easily make your money back.

the console logs this? well thats just fine. i have a spare console that displays no picture. i'll just use that.
